Free Basic Firearms Class For Delaware County Teachers

On March 18th, 2018 I hosted a training for employees of any school system in Delaware County. The response to the training was greater than anticipated and courses filled up quickly. Two separate training classes were offered. The training facility, instructors and equipment were all donated by sponsors in the community. Fox 59 covered this story, the link below will take you to it.  http://fox59.com/2018/03/19/delaware-county-deputy-hosts-free-handgun-class-for-teachers/

On February 22, 2018 in response to the Parkland, Florida school shooting, I announced that I was going to donate a free basic shooting class to any employee of any school system within Delaware County. The response was overwhelming! That post reached nearly 7,000 people and had over 70 shares from my Facebook page alone. Within the first day two television stations in Indianapolis picked up the story and shared it on their Facebook pages, along with most radio stations in the Muncie Area. The first shooting class filled up within 24 hours so I decided to add a second class. The second class filled up two days later. We currently have several people on the waiting list for these classes.

The Muncie Threat Assessment Center (MTAC) has agreed to donate their facility to host the classes, and all of the ammunition for both classes has been donated by local businesses and private citizens. My goal for this training is not to arm every school employee in Delaware County, as some people have interpreted by my invitation. It is my goal to see that our school’s staff has a solid foundation in  firearms safety and basic mechanics when it comes to the use of a handgun, nothing more. Local school boards have the final say if teachers are allowed to possess firearms within their schools.

If you work in a Delaware County school and are interested in attending this class, please fill out the form below with your contact information as well as the school system you work for. Seats for this class are very limited so act fast.

Completing this training does not guarantee you the option to carry your weapon in school. The ability to carry a handgun in your school is still regulated by your individual school board / corporation. Please check their rules prior to being armed in your place of employment.
